The Leadership Revolt # 4 | Labor, AI, and the Future Economy, Oh My!

The Leadership Revolt #4

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Hello Reader,

As we celebrate Labor Day, the legacy of Mary Harris "Mother" Jones, the firebrand labor organizer known as "the most dangerous woman in America," reminds us of the ongoing struggle for workers' rights. Her fearless advocacy along with other women like Emma Tenayuca, Dorothy Bolden, Nannie Helen Burroughs, and Sue Ko Lee laid the foundation for the modern labor movement, inspiring us to protect workers as AI and automation reshape our economy.

In this Intelligence Era, where AI + automation + late stage capitalism collide, we have to think expansively about how we ensure innovation doesn't come at the expense of workers' rights. Daniel Susskind, economist and author of A World Without Work, warns that as work diminishes, governments must take action to address the societal impacts of automation and AI. I agree—that’s why I'm fully committed to reshaping politics, who participates, and how.

It will take ALL of us, especially those of us closest to the issues, to reimagine education, career + trade, and society, if we are going to build a future economy where everybody thrives.

Luckily, success leaves clues and we can study the successes of past movements to inform our future moves.
